Why South Africa?

Location: Orlando Venue: Orange Avenue Store

Address: 1223 North Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32804

Cost: $25 per person/Club members $20

Start: August 23 @ 7:00 pm | End: August 23 @ 9:00 pm

For many years my local Master Sommelier friends would extoll the virtues of South Africa wine to me, and I was unconvinced.  Then I traveled to their beautiful country, met the amazing people and tasted the modern generation of wines, and now I am convinced as well.  On this evening we will sample through a collection of my favorite discoveries, some whites and mostly reds, and make converts of you too.

GEEKFEST –
A Study of Savoie, Jura and Cru Beaujolais

Location: Orlando Venue: Orange Avenue Store

Address: 1223 North Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32804

Cost: $25 per person/Club members $20

Start: August 30 @ 7:00 pm | End: August 30 @ 9:00 pm

For several years we have quietly built a following for white wines from the Savoie and the Cru villages from Beaujolais.  Recently we found an amazing source for wines from both areas, so for this evening we will “geek out” and show them off.  If you are not familiar with the aromatic and bone dry whites of the Savoie, the exotic reds and whites of Jura and the explosive Cru Beaujolais, now is the chance to learn.

Veneto & Emilia-Romagna-
Wines from the breadbasket of Italy

Location: Orlando Venue: Orange Avenue Store

Address: 1223 North Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32804

Cost: $25 per person/Club members $20

Start: September 6 @ 7:00 pm | End: September 6 @ 9:00 pm

There are always exciting things happening in Italian wine, but not all in Tuscany and the Piedmont.  For this class we will look at the impressive white wines coming from the hills of Lake Garda, then transition down into the plains for a look at modern Lambrusco.  Finally we will return to the Veneto and examine a flight of Valpolicella, Ripasso and Amarone from the same producer to see the differences in style from the same grapes.

Understanding Willamette Pinot Noir-
North Valley Wines
with special guest James Cahill – Partner

Location: Orlando Venue: Orange Avenue Store

Address: 1223 North Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32804

Cost: $25 per person/Club members $20

Start: September 13 @ 7:00 pm | End: September 13 @ 9:00 pm

Although most customers see all Oregon Pinot Noir as Willamette Valley, there are actually several smaller AVA’s within the northern Willamette Valley, each with their own unique character.  To highlight this the legendary Tony Soter and his partner James Cahill produce a series of single vineyard and appellation wines, keeping all of the the other variables the same.  On this evening we will examine their wines and learn the differences between the various regions of the upper Willamette.

Rioja –
The Contrast of Modern & Traditional

Location: Orlando Venue: Orange Avenue Store

Address: 1223 North Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32804

Cost: $25 per person/Club members $20

Start: September 20 @ 7:00 pm | End: September 20 @ 9:00 pm

Of all of the world’s great wine regions there is no area where the contrast between modern and traditional styles of wine is as blatantly obvious as Rioja.  On this evening we examine the unique history of the region, then taste wines from their various styles, produced by winemakers of both schools.  This class will look at red wines in the Joven, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva styles, as seen by both modern and traditional producers.
